TIPS ON CREATING DENIM ON DENIM LOOK FOR SS2024

In some circles, it use to be regarded as a serious fashion faux pas to wear denim-on-denim or a denim jacket or shirt with denim jeans. On the other hand, the denim-on-denim trend dates back to the 1960s, and there's a reason it's a staple in the fashion cycle. It's easy to look bold and fashionable without going overboard when you wear an all-denim ensemble.

Here are 5 tips on styling denim if you want to introduce denim into your wardrobe.

  1. Mix Shades and Textures:

Pair different washes and textures of denim to add depth and interest to your outfit. For example, you could wear a light denim shirt with dark denim jeans or a distressed denim jacket with a chambray shirt.

  2. Break it up with non-denim pieces:

To break up the denim-on-denim appearance and provide variation, it is important to mix non-denim pieces into your outfit. For example, wear a colorful shirt or white t-shirt underneath your denim jacket or shirt, and accessorize with a bold scarf or belt.

  3. Accessorize wisely:

When accessorizing your denim-on-denim outfit, pay attention to what adds flair. Statement jewelry, hats, scarves, belts, and scarves are some of the accessories that can liven up your outfit and break up the monotony of denim. I am not a fan of wearing belts when I go for denim on denim, but you can break the top and bottom denim up with a leather belt, but choose the color wisely.

  4. Fit is key

Ensure that your denim pieces fit you well. Go for pieces that flatter your body shape and proportions. Consider mixing different silhouettes. For instance, pairing skinny jeans with an oversized denim jacket or fitted denim shirt with wide-leg jeans or a midi or maxi skirt to create a balanced and stylish ensemble.

  5. Experiment with layering:

Layering is key to mastering the denim-on denim look. Experiment with different layering techniques, such as wearing a denim shirt under a denim jacket or tying a denim shirt around your waist over denim jeans. Layering adds dimension and visual interest to your outfit while allowing you to play with different combinations of denim pieces.
