SPRING/SUMMER ESSENTIALS
May showers bring Spring flowers as the saying goes. The rains have made the past few weeks rather wet and cold. But, hey, it is required for the lovely flowers to bloom. It can be aggravating when the weather changes frequently, and it is especially more so where I live. Just when you think the weather is getting better, it turns cold again. It is always thrilling to see the beginning of a new season, and Spring is no exception. I've already started setting aside all of the stuff I want to purge from my wardrobe and freshening up my apartment to suit the season. Since I am moving houses, I have purged my closet, sold a few items, and donated a huge part of it. I feel so refreshed for the new season.
When it comes to outfits to wear, it is always a bit of a challenge because the weather can still be quite cold, and it feels almost illegal to be spending money on clothing you won't be able to wear just yet, but if there's one thing I've learned over the years, it's that the good stuff sells out early, so I'm putting together my Spring/Summer 22 essential shopping list to ensure no one misses out!
Here are some items you need in your wardrobe this spring/summer season.
ESPADRILLE WEDGES
Castaner's espadrille wedges are my go-to shoes year after year. My first pair has been with me since 2019, and the fact that they are cream and have lasted this long is a wonder. I love wearing them during Spring/Summer. They are effortless when paired with transitioning cropped denim jeans to delicate flowy dresses. They come in different colors and designs. BUT...they sell out quickly, even in the most neutral of colors, so I've already stocked up on the colors I'll be wearing this season.
BEAUTIFUL WHITE DRESSES
My style shifts dramatically from winter to summer, and I'm looking forward to wearing beautiful midi and maxi linen dresses and having picnics in the park. I have already started purchasing a few dresses in preparation for summer. But every time I check my wish list, I add more items to it from Zimmermann to reformation. I adore how a plain white dress can be transformed with the right accessory; for instance, something as simple as a pair of statement Manolos or a tastefully patterned handbag.
BASKET / STRAW BAGS
They have been the must-have Spring/Summer bags for the past few years. Every year I see really gorgeous designs from all retail designers and high street brands bringing out great products. I rarely buy baskets or straw bags, but they are essential for this time of year especially if you have resort beach vacations coming up. The Loewe and Prada basket bags are now my favorites. I’m just eyeing a few I want to add to my closet. They look great with Castaner shoes and white linen dresses.
SUNGLASSES
Sunglasses are a must-have in spring going into the summer months. It is not just fashionable but also protects your eye from the sun rays that might be harmful to your sight. Every elegant lady must have at least a pair of sunglasses and I normally wear mine not only on vacations but all the time. It is also very important in times when you do not have your make-up done but have to run an errand. It hides all the tired eyes and makes it safe to continue to have your confidence while you move around. A pair of sunglasses in different styles and colors are available in different price ranges. And as I always advise, go for the classic ones with little or no embellishment. It doesn’t have to be designer wear; you can definitely find some quality ones on the high-street retailers.
GOOD QUALITY DENIM
It is normally too hot in summer hence you might not want to wear something that is tight on your legs. Denim skirts can easily replace the tight jeans during this season. When it comes to good denim, you can always rationalize spending a bit more. Normally, I'm on the lookout for the perfect pair of jeans to tuck my crisp white shirts into. Currently, I’m loving a frayed midi skirt to complement all of my tailored white shirts. I'm seeing something tight-fitting but with a forgiving split, light but not too light in color, and a nice degree of distressing that shouts "this old thing!" even though you only bought it last week. When it comes to denim skirts, you can get away with any price point just pay attention to the details.
THE PERFECT SPRING FRAGRANCE
I know fragrances are personal but here I am going to share with you a few fragrances you need at this time of the year. To me, the proper fragrance completes and sets the tone of any seasonal ensemble. I've developed a strong interest in fragrance and enjoy how you can tailor yours to meet your mood and tone. I always have a number of perfumes in the rotation because I don't like getting used to just one, and I'm always on the lookout for new, slightly niche brands and smells so that I'm always wearing something new and fresh.
Although I have links to many designer items here, you can definitely find any of these looks for less in any high-street or premium-priced shops. As I always say, pay attention to the details, material, and the whole construction of the item you intend to buy.
